As of December 31, 2009, CUNA Mutual Group, a Fortune 1000 company, reported $14.4 billion in assets (up 9% from the prior year) and $1.6 billion in policyholders’ surplus (up 33% from the prior year).
CUNA Mutual's Risk Based Capital ratio, a financial strength measure used by the insurance regulators to evaluate the capital adequacy of U.S. insurance companies, was 330% at December 31, 2009. This is a 10% improvement from 2008 and indicates that our current surplus levels are more than three times the level required by regulators.
